FAQs

LOOPING BASICS

Q: What's the max loop time?
You get 60 seconds of max loop time for your initial loop. Then you can overdub as long and as much as you want.

Q: Can I stack more than two loops/overdubs?
Yes, you can add new loops on top of your initial loop. The videos didn't show many overdubs, but this is where things really start to get interesting with Pattern Keeper.

Q: What happens to earlier overdubs as I stack more layers?
Each overdub incorporates a decay to the previous overdubs, so things don't sound crowded. Think of it as an automatic decay that allows for natural stacking.

Q: Does it have a decay control?
The overdub decay is set to a fixed -0.45 dB per pass, which is a gentle, tape-style fade designed to keep layers musical without things getting too wild. After 10 overdub passes the oldest material sits around -4.6 dB below where it started, and it continues to fade naturally from there. So the loop never gets overcrowded.

Q: Does Pattern Keeper save loops when powered off?
No, and this is by design. Pattern Keeper is designed as an analog approach to digital looping, meant to feel "in the moment" rather than creating something that lives forever.

Q: Can I undo an overdub if I make a mistake?
There is no undo. After playing with it this way for almost a year, the team found it puts your mindset in a completely different place and positions it more as an "in the moment" experience.

Q: Why is there no double-tap or tap-and-hold for basic functions?
That's intentional. One switch does one thing. Record, overdub, and delete on one switch. Stop and restart on another. No button combos to memorize.

Q: What's the difference between Stop mode and Trigger mode?
Stop mode stops and restarts your loop. Trigger mode is for sampling: it jumps back to the beginning of your loop on command so you can drop it rhythmically into whatever you're playing.

EFFECTS & SIGNAL FLOW

Q: Can I change effects between overdub layers (e.g., reverse + pitch down on one layer, filter + pitch up on the next)
Pitch and reverse affect the record head, while filter and volume are located after the playback head. This means recordings can be altered in pitch and direction, but filter and volume act as a master on the track.

Q: Can I record a loop, reverse it, overdub on the reverse, then flip back so the original is forward and the overdub is reversed?
Yes, you can do that as many times as you want in each mode. Record a loop, reverse, flip it, overdub, then flip again. Repeat as many times as you want.

Q: If I pitch shift up and overdub, then bring the pitch back down, will my overdub shift down?
Yes. Besides the initial loop, recordings are relative to whatever pitch you recorded in, so the shift carries.

Q: What's the pitch range?
One octave down to one octave up, with a center detent that snaps back to unity. The pitch shifting works like tape, so speed changes with pitch.

Q: What does the filter do?
It's a fourth-order filter modeled after the same topology as Niisoo. Left of center is low-pass (warm, rolled off). Right of center is high-pass (telephone, lo-fi). Center detent snaps back to no filter.

Q: Is my dry signal processed digitally?
No. Your analog dry signal stays analog and is never processed digitally. The digital processing is only for the looping and effects.

EXPRESSION PEDAL

Q: Can the expression pedal control multiple parameters at once?
Yes, Pattern Keeper has an assignment feature that easily allows you to map multiple parameters at the same time (e.g., filter and pitch together).

Q: What expression controller can I use?
You can use either a TS switch that is normally open (NO) or a TRS connection with variable resistance from 10kΩ to 100kΩ that has tip active. You can't use dual controllers like the Boss FS-6 to control multiple parameters, but rather Pattern Keeper has an assignment that easily allows you to map multiple paramete

CONNECTIVITY

Q: Can I use Pattern Keeper with just one amp (mono)?
Yes. Set to mono in, stereo out mode (default) then run a standard TS cable in and out.

Q: What are the audio connections?
Audio In and Audio Out are both 1/4" TRS jacks (tip = left, ring = right). Expression is also 1/4" TRS. There's also USB-C for firmware updates.

PURCHASING & SHIPPING

Q: Do you sell through retailers or only direct?
Only through the site right now.

Q: Do you ship internationally (Canada, UK, Germany)?
Yes. DHL is used for all international shipments, and packages generally arrive one to three days after leaving the shop.
