0:00 - 0:29 A word on filtered fuzz with Mike.

Today we are stacking Commodity Fuzz and Niisoo to get massive synth-style filter sweeps. Join us as we deep-dive into this sound, exploring all three filter modes.

We will be using an expression pedal throughout to “shift” between our selected frequency points. Let’s go!

0:30 - 1:44 Whaaaas up?

We’ll start out with Niisoo in band-pass mode, this puts you in classic wah territory. However, Niisoo’s boundary and rez controls allow you to dial the sweep and bite to your exact preferences. Pair this with the chaotic and gated breakup of Commodity Fuzz, and you have a sound that can slice through the densest mixes with ease.

1:45 - 2:32 The razor’s edge.

Next, let’s check out this combo with Niisoo in high-pass mode. High-pass mode allows the treble portion of your signal to come through while restricting the low-end. This is a great way to “thin out” your signal for “lo-fi” or “telephone” type sounds. Pairing with Commodity will create a wide range of fuzz tones, from big and beefy to thin and prickly.

2:33 - 3:26 Don’t pass on low-pass.

Lastly, let’s switch to low-pass mode. Low-pass will restrict treble frequencies, while allowing bass frequencies to come through. This can be used to create swells that blur the line between volume and filter. Adding Commodity to the mix, will create abrasive and interesting textures, while introducing sub-octave anomalies to sustained notes.

Let’s make some noise!
