VaLEDine’s Day Makoyii 2024

VaLEDine’s Day.

For this year’s VaLEDine’s Day, we’re headed to tone island to find our pedal in paradise. If you enjoy long sustains on the beach and a tone that'll keep you warm, the VaLEDine’s Day Makoyii is here to show you the love you deserve and need.

TLDR

Who's it for?

V-Day Makoyii is for the musician who needs an always-on pedal with extra low end and a crunch that bites, making it the perfect solution for bass, keys, and the guitarist who enjoys some thick tone in their life.

What's it for?

V-Day Makoyii has a completely reworked gain, offering so much love from its subtly sweet compression all the way to its gracefully aggressive distortion.

A heart too big for a small enclosure.

Big heart, big tone, and a pedal that you can take home. We’ll talk about tone in a moment, but before we dive in, let's address the elephant in the room – and you're right, we went big! The V-Day Makoyii had so much love to give that we couldn’t contain its big ole heart in our standard enclosure. The V-Day Makoyii comes in an enclosure that is 40% larger than our standard size. Additionally, the V-Day Makoyii features a sweet-pink enclosure, forbidden-love red print, sparkling red aluminum knobs, and a nice little kiss at the bottom to let you know that NativeAudio will always love you.

Love is blind.

When you are truly in love, labels and appearance don’t matter. We get asked all the time if Makoyii is a compressor, overdrive, or distortion. We don’t like to play and tell, but we’ll let your ears determine what it sounds like to you and if it’s the perfect match. Until then, let’s nerd out and talk tone.

Love experienced in a new way.

The enclosure for V-Day Makoyii made us whip up an entirely new circuit board, and I personally didn't want to tackle all that without having some fun. So, we gave the hardware an internal makeover, taking inspiration from our War Pony Distortion release.

Here’s a rundown of the modifications:

  • Added LED-hybrid clipping (for more headroom and better responsiveness)

  • Adjusted the low-cut filter (bringing in more low-end for a thicker tone)

Not that kind of breakup.
The term "Breakup" typically defines the characteristics of a dirt pedal, and as mentioned earlier, more headroom and increased responsiveness are part of this complex love equation. These adjustments have genuinely opened up a new way to connect with Makoyii and your tone. The hybrid clipping combines the headroom of LED clipping with the warm response of silicon diodes, creating a reckless kind of love. The result is a dirt pedal that responds to and cares for each and every single note.

Thick thirty.

We aimed to enhance the V-Day Makoyii’s frequency response. Not that it was bad, but we wanted to spice things up a bit for this special occasion. We ended up reworking the low-cut filtering in the gain stage. The outcome was more of a surprise than anything, and we ended up with a pedal that has a ton of body. It can boom with the best due to the updated low-end signal that is now available to pass through the gain stage.

Wolf Blood MK, meet V-Day MK.
You might recall the Wolf Blood Makoyii from a while back. It featured LEDs and shared the name Makoyii. How is this version of Makoyii different? Well, Wolf Blood took a more traditional approach to LED clipping, having only LED pairs in a symmetrical configuration with no additional silicon diodes. Additionally, the gain stage was kept intact with no adjustment of the low-cut filter. All of these modifications resulted in Wolf Blood Makoyii having slightly more high-end harmonics and a tighter low-end response.

In contrast, the V-Day Makoyii offers a different flavor of gain. With a focus on a thicker body of tone and increased headroom, it provides a soft crunch that is complemented by the updated low-end signal passing through the gain stage and more headroom for dynamics. The result is a pedal with a warmer character, making it perfect for those who need a dirt pedal that covers a wider range of the frequency spectrum.

Package with love.
Not only is V-Day Makoyii built with love, but it’s also packaged with love as well. We didn’t cut corners on this year’s bundle of love. In addition to the Makoyii’s heart-themed enclosure, the package will also include:

  • Custom M&Ms printed with the V-Day Makoyii logo and other prints of love.

  • A hand-written V-Day card from the NativeAudio team addressed to you because you mean so much to us and deserve only the best.

  • A three-inch holographic “NativeAudio Loves Me” sticker because the world needs to know how much we care about you.

  • A completely decked-out pedal box to showcase all the love that’s included in this special run of V-Day pedals.

The final rose.

Don’t miss your chance on love. We’ve only produced a limited amount of V-Day Makoyii pedals and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

As always, we love you and thank you for supporting NativeAudio!

Let’s make some noise.

Now that we’ve explored the possible, let’s go and create the impossible. Visit here for the VaLEDine’s Day Makoyii.
